The two cases keep Kinsey moving around California, and they keep the reader on pins and needles about what will happen next. It also unearths a stalker, one who not only sets his sights on Kinsey's friend, but on Kinsey herself. The search uncovers a cache of religious items hidden in the bottom of a box. She soon finds out the woman is not the person she presented herself to be, which sends Kinsey on the hunt for her fraudulent employer and the reasons behind her deception. The job seems easy enough, until Kinsey learns the woman paid her with marked $100 bills, which earns Kinsey a visit from the police. In the first case, Kinsey is hired by a woman to find her felon son, recently released from prison. In the 24th installment of the series, private detective Kinsey Millhone finds herself facing two cases that keep her busy from the word go. In "X," Grafton proves that she is at the top of her game.
