But where The Elite left me frustrated by that hypocrisy, America finally faces the truth that she’ll have to choose between the two boys in The One. She criticizes Maxon about his complex feelings for the other candidates when she harbors her own feelings for her childhood bestie, Aspen. Sometimes the dialog gets a bit superficial, and a few times America comes off as selfish. I picked up The One because I needed a light read, and this The Bachelor meets Cinderella fit the bill. But as the end of the competition approaches, and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose-and how hard she’ll have to fight for the future she wants. When she was chosen to compete in the Selection, America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown-or to Prince Maxon’s heart.

The time has come for one winner to be crowned.
